2.3 LCD Controller
The S1C38000 contains a S1D13706 compatible Color / Monochrome LCD graphics controller
with an embedded 112K byte SRAM display buffer.
The LCD controller can support typical resolutions of 160 x 160 at 16 bpp, 320 x 320 at 8 bpp, etc.
The S1C38000 supports single-panel, 4/8-bit monochrome, passive LCD displays, and single-panel,
4/8/16-bit color, passive, LCD displays, and 9/12/18-bit, active matrix TFT displays, with “direct”
support for 18-bit Sharp HR-TFT displays. The S1C38000 contains a full 256-entry x 18-bit Look
Up Table and supports up to 64 gray-shades on monochrome displays and 64K colors on color
displays.
The LCD controller supports many useful display mode features such as virtual display sizes,
Picture-in-Picture Plus (variable size Overlay window), and SwivelView 90° or 270° Mode, which
removes the software related performance penalties associated with portrait-mode devices such as
the palm-size PC. The LCD controller also contains a PWM output for contrast/backlight control
(can be used for other applications) and support for software controllable power-save mode.
2.4 USB Device
The USB device in the S1C38000 is compliant with USB Specification Version 1.0/1.1. The USB
device is a Vendor Specific Class.
The USB device supports bulk, isochronous, control, and interrupt data transfers between the
S1C38000 and a USB host. The device contains independent 64-byte transmit and receive FIFOs to
maximize throughput. DMA transfers are also supported.
2.5 Bus Interfaces
The S1C38000 supports both the CompactFlash and a Generic Bus interface. However, only one
interface can be active at a time.
CompactFlash Interface
The S1C38000 provides a 3.3V interface for a single CompactFlash card device. Control signals are
provided for external buffers to isolate the CompactFlash bus and the Memory bus, and to level shift
the signals for 5V CompactFlash cards. Memory mode and I/O mode are supported; True IDE mode
is not supported.
Generic Bus Interface
The S1C38000 provides a Generic Bus interface, compatible with Springboard electrical
specifications, that can be used an expansion bus.
2.6 Pulse Width Modulation
The S1C38000 provides two pulse width modulation channels: PWM0 and PWM1. Each channel
can be configured to have either 8 bits or 16 bits of resolution. An 8-bit channel will have a 8-level
FIFO, while a 16-bit channel will have a 4-level FIFO.
2.7 Real Time Clock
The Real Time Clock (RTC) module provides data for second, minute, hour, and day. The RTC
supports a start/stop function, minute/hour/day alarms, alarm interrupts, and a periodic interrupt.
