OVERVIEW
STLC7549is theanalogcomponentof a2-chipPC
audiosolution for multimedia application. It is well
suited for CD-Quality Audio/Telephonyand DSVD
V.34bis Modem/Fax application. Outstandingper-
formances are obtained thanks to 16-bit sigma-
delta architecture, giving dynamic ranges
exceeding 9OdB for modem and 85dB for audio
withprogrammablesamplefrequencyupto 48kHz.
With powerdown and 3.3V to 5V digital supply
modes,it integratescompleteanalog-front-endcir-
cuits in a 64 pins TQFP package reducing power
consumption,size and circuitry complexity.
Figure 1 gives the simplified diagram of the
STLC7549internal structure. It presents threedif-
ferent pans - Audio, Telephony and Modem - that
offersrealsimultaneousaudioandcommunication
features,withdualserialport anddualprogramma-
blesamplerate formoreflexibilityand efficiency.In
thatway,previousmodemdigital controleror DSP
softwarecan be usedwithouthavingto adapt it for
additionalaudio part.
Eachpart providea DACchannelandan ADCthat
respectively convert data from digital interface to
analogsignals,and convertanaloginputsignalsto
digitaldatato thedigitalinterface.ADCdigitalpaths
to DAC digital paths loopback is supported.
STLC7549audiopartgivesfullduplexstereochan-
nels that, thanks to a dual set of mixer, allows
independent analog mixing and recording mixing
withDACchannelofallthefollowingaudiosources:
- ThreemainstereoinputlinesfromCDplayer,MPEG
audio signal, VCR recording, FM Synthesizer and
MIDIapplication(L1,L2,L3,R1,R2andR3)
- A stereo microphone input from desktop and/or
headset, including a selectable +2OdB pre-am-
plifier (MICLand MICR)
- Amono input for PC speaker(MONO-IN)
Each sources can be amplified, attenuated and
muted independently. Two stereo outputs
(LOUT1,LOUT2,ROUT1 and ROUT2) provide the
resultingaudiomixingtotwostereolineout through
a volumecontrolblockdirectlyset by pushbuttons,
DC potentiometer pins, or by serial port register
command.Anadditionalsummer provideto thePC
speaker (MONO-OUT) a mixing of the stereo out-
puts with MONO-IN.
STLC7549 Telephonypart provide a mono mixing
of two mono inputs from second phone line and
headset (TP2Rx and TP2Tx) with stereo micro-
phone line to the ADC channel. Input can also be
used for mixing music or message in answering
machine or hold mode application. DAC channel
drive threemono outputs to phone speaker,head-
setspeakers,secondlinemodem,faxor reargame
channel (HandTxl,HandTx2,HandTx3).
STLC7549Modempart includea differentialmono
input andoutputline,and an additionaloutputline.
It is targeted for V.34bis standard. Telephonyand
Modem parts are independent of audio parts
thanksto a secondsampling clockand serial port.
However,all clockscan alsobecontrolledfromthe
audio Master clock (MCLKA), providing a quadra-
phonic mode for surround and 3-D soundapplica-
tions.
Height General Programmable InputsOutputs are
provided for ring detect, LEDs and pushbuttons
control, audio or phone source presence.
With full duplex mixing features, quadraphony
mode, independentaudio and communication se-
rial ports and programmable sample rates,
STLC7549 is a simultaneous Modem/Teleph-
ony/StereoAudio Codec well suited for PC multi-
media applications.
