Installing Microsoft Windows 2000 on a Intel Integrated RAID Volume
or Pass-Through Disk
This procedure installs Microsoft Windows 2000on an Intel Integrated RAID storage device. Have
all hardware and software on hand. See system requirements in
Section 2.5.6.2
.

for detailed hardware installation procedures.
Intel Integrated RAID Software Installation
1. Create and configure a RAID volume or pass-through disk using the RAID Configuration
Utility. See
Section 2.2, RAID Configuration Utility
in the user
’
s manual to create and
configure a RAID volume. Once a bootable RAID volume or pass-through disk is created and
configured, return to this procedure to install the operating system.
2. Install the following required software:
a. Microsoft Windows 2000
Select the scenario below (1 or 2) which matches your installation method.
1. If you are installing Windows 2000
with
boot disks (booting from diskettes initially to
setup Windows 2000), during install let Windows 2000 detect the storage devices in your
system. When device detection is complete, select
S
to specify additional storage devices,
then select
Other
. Insert the GSU31 Windows 2000 Installation Driver diskette in the
floppy drive. Press
Enter
to select the Windows 2000 I
2
O Miniport and continue with the
Windows 2000 installation. Go to
step b
.
2. If you are installing Windows 2000 using the bootable Windows 2000CD-ROM,
press
F6 as soon as the initial blue screen appears
to ensure that the GSU31
Windows 2000
Installation Driver diskette can be loaded when specifying
Other Diskettes
. Otherwise, the
Windows 2000 installation program will not load the Windows 2000 I

O Miniport from
the GSU31
Windows 2000 Installation Driver diskette. When device detection is
complete, select
S
to specify additional storage devices and then select
Other
. Insert the
GSU31
Windows 2000 Installation Driver diskette in the floppy drive. Press
Enter
to
select the I
2
O Storage Devices Drivers and continue with the 2000 installation. Go to
step
b
.
b. If you plan to remotely administer the RAID subsystem of this computer system, ensure
that you install the following components during Windows 2000 installation:
—
TCP/IP
—
Internet Information Services
Note:
Remote Administration is not supported on Windows 2000 Professional. Thus,
step b
is optional for 2000 Professional.
3. After the Window 2000 installation is complete, log into the system with administrative
privileges and install the RAID Software Suite.
4. Insert the GSU31 CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. If the Software Installation Main Menu
does not appear, then run the setup.exe file that resides at:
<CD-ROM root>\os_setup\win2k\setup.exe on the CD-ROM.
5. Click on the
Setup
button. See
