3. BASIC CIRCUITS OF A POWER SUPPLY IC
3.1 Basic Circuits
Although the basic circuits that make up a power supply IC differ according to the product type, the following
elements are necessary.
<1> Reference voltage circuit
<2> Error amplifier
<3> Active load (constant current circuit)
<4> Output stage power transistor
<5> Startup circuit
The following protection circuits also are on-chip.
<6> Overcurrent protection circuit
<7> Limiting circuit for securing safe operating area (SOA)
<8> Overheat protection circuit
Figure 3-1 shows a block diagram of a power supply IC.
