C-3E : C-3e Network Processor
The C-3e Network Processor (NP) is a highly integrated, flexible, and
functionally-rich processor that extends the reach of the C-Port Network
Processor Family to lower bandwidth, lower power access applications. The
C-3e NP can be deployed in a variety of access equipment including
2.5G/3G wireless infrastructure devices, media gateways, multiservice
access platforms, and broadband aggregation devices.
C-3E Features
The C-3e NP offers eight external PHY interfaces, each accommodating up
to an OC-3's worth of bandwidth. Ethernet MACs (10/100 and GbE) and
SONET/SDH framers (OC-3/STM-1 and OC-12/STM-3) are integrated
on-chip, lowering overall system costs for those interfaces. In addition, the
C-3e NP has an external UTOPIA 2/3 port for ATM fabric or framer
connections. The C-3e NP also can be connected to a Freescale
PowerQUICC" device for highly cost-effective TDM interface and host
processing support. The C-3e NP can also be used seamlessly with
Freescale's traffic management coprocessor for more advanced Quality of
Service capabilities.
Like other members of the C-Port Family, the C-3e NP provides complete
programmability of forwarding plane tasks using a standard Applications
Programming Interface (API) and C programming languages.
Consequently, the C-3e NP is fully software compatible with the C-Port
Family, enabling a common programming model across a vast range of
bandwidth options.
