CCD Emulators
The XRD9810/12 has a triple CDS for processing direct inputs from a tri-linear CCD. If direct
inputs are not available, on board CCD emulators have been provided to evaluate the XRD9810/
12’s performance. The CCD emulators are provided by analog switches (Elantec EL4421)
U6, U7, U8 and U9 or clamping amplifiers (National CLC502A) U10, U11, U12 and U13. The
analog switches U6, U7, U8 and U9 are loaded on board by default. U10, U11, U12 and U13
are not loaded.
The EL4421s switch between two analog voltages controlled by one clock. To represent a CCD
output, two voltages can be applied to the analog switch to emulate the black and video
sections of a pixel from a typical CCD. For example: A sine wave can be used to represent
video pixels. Therefore, full channel (CDS, PGA, Offset and A/D) dynamic performance can
be characterized with conventional A/D characterization tools.

The CLC502As are 12-Bit accurate clamping amplifiers. Maximum positive and negative
output voltages can be established to set the clamped output waveform (black and video
sections of a pixel representation). These two voltages can be used to emulate a typical CCD
output.
