Synchronizing Multiple LTC2309s with a Global
Address Call

thesameI2Cbus,allconverterscanbesynchronized
throughtheuseofaglobaladdresscall.Priortoissu-
ingtheglobaladdresscall,allconvertersmusthave
completedaconversioncycle.Themasterthenissues
aSTART,followedbytheglobaladdress1101011,and
awriterequest.Allconverterswillbeselectedandac-
knowledgetherequest.Themasterthensendsawrite
byte(optional)followedbytheSTOPcommand.Thiswill
updatethechannelselection(optional)andsimultane-
ouslyinitiateaconversionforallADCsonthebus(see
Figure11).Inordertosynchronizemultipleconverters
withoutchangingthechannel,aSTOPcommandmay
beissuedafteracknowledgementoftheglobalwrite
command.Globalreadcommandsarenotallowedand
theconverterswillNACKaglobalreadrequest.
Nap Mode
TheADCentersnapmodeafteraconversioniscom-
plete(tCONV)iftheSLPbitissettoalogic0.Thesup-
plycurrentdecreasesto210μAinnapmodebetween
conversions, thereby reducing the average power
dissipationasthesampleratedecreases.Forexample,
theLTC2309drawsanaverageof300Aata1ksps
samplingrate.TheLTC2309keepsonlythereference
(VREF)andreferencebuffer(REFCOMP)circuitryactive
wheninnapmode.

drawsonly7Ainsleepmode,providedthatnoneof
thedigitalinputsareswitching.WhentheLTC2309is
properlyaddressed,theADCisreleasedfromsleepmode

therespective2.2μFand10μFbypasscapacitorsonthe
VREFandREFCOMPpins.Anewconversionshouldnot
beinitiatedbeforethistime,asshowninFigure12.
