When performing a return loss measurement the output is in a static and unloaded
condition. The typical cable driver power supply is 1.8V, which places the
unloaded swing very close to the power rails of the GS9092A's cable driver. As the
output voltage approaches the GND rail, the output driver enters a non-linear
region. In this region, the GS9092A's output transistor's characteristics are not
optimal (see
Figure 3-10
).
Figure 3-11
shows the return loss performance of the cable driver as a function of
the output voltage level. When the output driver is latched low, the observed ORL
in the non-linear region will appear degraded. When the output driver is latched
high, the observed ORL will be representative of the operating return loss.
