The TMDS461 is designed to be controlled via a local I2C interface. With I2C interface port status can be read as
well as advanced configurations of the device such as variable output edge rate, HPD operation, Power saving
mode, and port selection behavior can be configured. When the I2C_SEL pin is set low, the device is in GPIO
control mode, controlled through source selectors, S1 and S2.
When an input port is selected, the integrated terminations, 50
termination resistor pulled up to Vcc, are
switched on for the clock channel, the Clock detection circuit is enabled, the DDC Repeater is enabled, and the
state of the 5V_PWR signal passes to the 5V_Ind. After a valid clock is detected the integrated termination
resistors for the data lines are enabled and the output TMDS lines are enabled. When an input port is not
selected, the integrated terminations are switched off, the TMDS receivers are disabled, and the DDC repeater is
disabled. Clock detection circuitry provides an automatic power management feature since if there is no valid
TMDS clock detected, the terminations on the input TMDS data lines are disconnected and the TMDS outputs
are also High Z.
When standby mode is enabled, the device is in standby operations, all terminations are switched off, all TMDS
receivers are disabled; however, the local I2C and control logic is still active , 5-V power detection, Auto Select
and HPD logic are operational as well in standby mode.
When LP is low the device is in low power mode. This mode is designed to optimize power saving drawing
<2mW of power, the I2C logic is still active, but the device will not respond to any activity from any TMDS Port.
