Programmingwillonlychangethebitstatusfrom"1"to"0".Itisnotpossibletochangethebitstatusfrom"0"to
"1"byprogramming.Thiscanonlybedonebyaneraseoperation.Furthermore,theinternalwriteverification
onlychecksanddetectserrorsincaseswherea"1"isnotsuccessfullyprogrammedto"0".
Anycommandswrittentothedeviceduringprogrammingwillbeignoredexcepthardwareresetorprogramsus-
pend.Hardwareresetwillterminatetheprogramoperationafteraperiodoftimenomorethan10us.Whenthe
embeddedprogramalgorithmiscompleteortheprogramoperationisterminatedbyahardwarereset,thede-
vicewillreturntoReadmode.Programsuspendready,thedevicewillenterprogramsuspendreadmode.
Aftertheembeddedprogramoperationhasbegun,theusercancheckforcompletionbyreadingthefollowing
bitsinthestatusregister:

ERASING THE MEMORY ARRAY
Therearetwotypesoferaseoperationsperformedonthememoryarray--SectorEraseandChipErase.In
theSectorEraseoperation,oneormoreselectedsectorsmaybeerasedsimultaneously.IntheChipErase
operation,thecompletememoryarrayiserasedexceptforanyprotectedsectors.Moredetailsoftheprotected
sectorsareexplainedinsection5.
SECTOR ERASE
Thesectoreraseoperationisusedtocleardatawithinasectorbyreturningallofitsmemorylocationstothe
"1"state.Itrequiressixcommandcyclestoinitiatetheeraseoperation.Thefirsttwocyclesare"unlockcycles",
thethirdisaconfigurationcycle,thefourthandfiftharealso"unlockcycles",andthesixthcycleistheSector
Erasecommand.Afterthesectorerasecommandsequencehasbeenissued,aninternal50ustime-outcounter
isstarted.Untilthiscounterreacheszero,additionalsectoraddressesandSectorErasecommandsmaybeis-
suedthusallowingmultiplesectorstobeselectedanderasedsimultaneously.Afterthe50ustime-outcounter
hasexpired,nonewcommandswillbeacceptedandtheembeddedsectoreraseoperationwillbegin.Notethat
the50ustimer-outcounterisrestartedaftereveryerasecommandsequence.Iftheuserentersanycommand
otherthanSectorEraseorEraseSuspendduringthetime-outperiod,theeraseoperationwillabortandthede-
vicewillreturntoReadmode.
Aftertheembeddedsectoreraseoperationbegins,allcommandsexceptEraseSuspendwillbeignored.The
onlywaytointerrupttheoperationiswithanEraseSuspendcommandorwithahardwarereset.Thehardware
resetwillcompletelyaborttheoperationandreturnthedevicetoReadmode.
