1) Caution items for MTS application circuit
(1) When you select an external input in the state that a big amplitude noise is inputted into the television
sound multiplex input, you are likely not to get an appropriate S/N ratio.
In case of using the SIF input, the countermeasure to it is possible by changing the input setting from SIF
to base band through serial control in using the external input. However, a time control is required to return
to SIF beforehand so as not to cause a shock sound when you return a HiFi input selector to television
sound multiplex side.
When you use it with base band input, it is recommendable for you to mute outside so that noise is not
inputted into television sound multiplex input.
(2) In using television sound multiplex with base band input, the IC is adjusted to optimized separation if you
adjust an input level to 100% monaural modulation and 106 mV[rms] (
= 300 mV[p-p]) in pre-emphasis
off. However, when you can not get enough separation by fluctuation of frequency characteristics of input
signal, you can adjust the separation in high frequency band if you connect a volume of 100 k
between
pin 47 and GND. Normally, an open mode will do well.
On the other hand, if you need to adjust in the low frequency band, adjust the input level adjustment volume
so as to get optimum separation level in low frequency band.
(3) When you use television sound multiplex with SIF input, set SIF input level from a tuner so as to get 90
dB
V ± 10 dBV to a standard RF field input. To get enough separation without adjustment, set the
bandwidth of SIF-BPF to
±0.5 dB over 4.5 MHz ± 50 kHz.
(4) At measurement of separation, use a well calibrated stereo modulator with good dbx encoding character-
istics. The recommended equipment: Model 465C-A from EIDEN. When you use it with SIF input, adjust
FM modulation accurately to
±25 kHz at 100% of monaural modulation and pre-emphasis off. And between
a line out and AC level meter, insert a LPF so as to attenuate 20 dB or more at 30 kHz and then measure.
(5) When you connect television sound multiplex to the tuner of inter-carrier method and input, in a weak
electric field, a white element-abundant video signal and a stereo sound signal, a phase relation between
a pilot signal and a sub-carrier varies, being affected by fH or 2 fH element from a video signal, and a buzz
distortion comes out. In a normal circuit, the buzz distortion is negligible, but if it is not of a negligible
level due to the tuner characteristics, it is recommendable for you to change a peripheral circuit of pin 46
as shown below. You can lower it to a certain level.
