uses the incoming differential high speed logic signal
tomodulatethelaserdiodedrivercurrent.ThisTxlaser
drivercircuitregulatestheopticalpowerataconstant
levelprovidedtheincomingdatapatternisdcbalanced
(8B/10Bcode,forexample).
TransmitDisable(TX_DISABLE)
The AFCT-57R5APZ accepts a TTL and CMOS compat-
ible transmit disable control signal input (pin 3) which
shutsdownthetransmitteropticaloutput.Ahighsignal
implements this function while a low signal allows
normaltransceiveroperation.Intheeventofafault(e.g.
eye safety circuit activated), cycling this control signal
resets the module as depicted in Figure 4. An internal
pullupresistordisablesthetransceivertransmitteruntil
thehostpullstheinputlow.Hostsystemsshouldallow
a 10 ms interval between successive assertions of this
control signal.Tx_Disable can also be asserted via the
two-wireserialinterface(addressA2h,byte110,bit6)and
monitored(addressA2h,byte110,bit7).
ThecontentsofA2h,byte110,bit6arelogicOR’dwith
hardware Tx_Disable (pin 3) to control transmitter
operation
TransmitFault(TX_FAULT)
A catastrophic laser fault will activate the transmitter
signal, TX_FAULT, and disable the laser. This signal is
anopencollectoroutput(pull-uprequiredonthehost
board). A low signal indicates normal laser operation
and a high signal indicates a fault. The TX_FAULT will
belatchedhighwhenalaserfaultoccursandiscleared
bytogglingtheTX_DISABLEinputorpowercyclingthe
transceiver.The transmitter fault condition can also be
monitoredviathetwo-wireserialinterface(addressA2,
byte110,bit2).
EyeSafetyCircuit
TheAFCT-57R5APZprovidesClass1(singlefaulttolerant)
eyesafetybydesignandhasbeentestedforcompliance
with the requirements listed inTable 1.The eye safety
circuitcontinuouslymonitorstheopticaloutputpower
levelandwilldisablethetransmitterupondetectingan
unsafeconditionbeyondthescopeofClass1certifica-
tion.Suchunsafeconditionscanbeduetoinputsfrom
thehostboard(Vccfluctuation,unbalancedcode)ora
faultwithinthetransceiver.
