ThereceiversectionincludestheReceiverOpticalSub-
Assembly(ROSA)andtheamplification/quantizationcir-
cuitry.TheROSA,containingaPINphotodiodeandcus-
tomtransimpedanceamplifier,islocatedattheoptical
interfaceandmateswiththeLCopticalconnector.The
ROSAoutputisfedtoacustomICthatprovidespost-
amplificationandquantization.
Receiver Loss of Signal (Rx_LOS)
The post-amp IC also includes transition detection cir-
cuitrywhichmonitorstheAClevelofincomingoptical
signals and provides a LVTTL/CMOS compatible status
signaltothehost.Ahighstatussignalindicateslossof
modulatedsignal,indicatinglinkfailuressuchasbroken
fiberorfailedtransmitter.Rx_LOScanalsobemonitored
viathetwo-wireserialinterface(addressA2h,byte110,
bit1).
Functional Data I/O
TheAFBR-700SDZinterfaceswiththehostcircuitboard
through the twenty contact SFP+ electrical connector.

The AFBR-700SDZ high speed transmit and receive in-
terfacesrequireSFF-8431compliantsignallinesonthe
hostboard.Tosimplifyboardrequirements,biasingre-
sistorsandACcouplingcapacitorsareincorporatedinto
theSFP+transceivermodule(perSFF-8431)andhence
are not required on the host board. The TX_DISABLE,
TX_FAULTandRX_LOSsignalsrequireLVTTLsignalson
thehostboard(perSFF-8431)ifused.Ifanapplication
doesnottakeadvantageofthesefunctions,caremust
betakentogroundTX_DISABLEtoenablenormalop-
eration.
Figure 2 depicts the recommended interface circuit to
linktheAFBR-700SDZtosupportingphysicallayerICs.

Caution
There are no user serviceable parts nor maintenance
requirementsfortheAFBR-700SDZ.Allmechanicalad-
justments are made at the factory prior to shipment.
Tamperingwith,modifying,misusingorimproperlyhan-
dlingtheAFBR-700SDZwillvoidtheproductwarranty.It
mayalsoresultinimproperoperationandpossiblyover-
stressthelasersource.Performancedegradationorde-
vicefailuremayresult.ConnectionoftheAFBR-700SDZ
to a light source not compliant with IEEE Std. 802.3ae
Clause52andSFF-8341specifications,operatingabove
maximumoperatingconditionsorinamannerinconsis-
tentwithit’sdesignandfunctionmayresultinexposure
tohazardouslightradiationandmayconstituteanact
ofmodifyingormanufacturingalaserproduct.Persons
performingsuchanactarerequiredbylawtorecertify
andre-identifythelaserproductundertheprovisionsof
U.S.21CFR(SubchapterJ)andTUV.
