Simplified Engineering Design Procedure
In the previous section, by assuming VC_25 = VC_110, values for resistors R23 and R10 are
estimated by solving the two simulataneous equations 18 and 19.
The simplified procedure can be used to get the estimates of R23 and R10. The steps are as
follows.
1.
Knowing the zener value of D6, one can estimate VC_25. For example, if D6 is a 15V zener, one
can choose 11 Volts for VC_25. This provides 4V nominal margin for the zener not to conduct.

Once VC_25 is known, equation 18 is solved to get the estimate for (RC) =

An NTC can be selected such that, RNTC1_25 is about 5-10 times the value of R10 and
RNTC1_25 is about 1/5 - 1/10 the value of R10.

VC_110 can then be calculated from equation 19.

VC_110 should be in the allowable range for the U2 (TL431) and no conduction for zener D6.
For this example, the voltage range for VC_110 should be around 5V to 10V. This will satisfy the
minimum requirement for VC (not less than 2.5V) with a margin.

This process can be repeated until VC_110 is in the allowable range.
